DaVinci Kalani Convertible Crib in Espresso Reviews

I was on the fence about spending 0 on a solid crib or this one. I finally decided on this one because as it turned out, the expensive Sorelle also used cam-locks on most of their cribs. So that was the deal breaker. The Kalani is sturdy despite the few cam-locks. Grandpa had no problem with the assembly and finished within an hour. This is for my 3rd child as I converted the old one already. Features that were hard to find in one crib but offered in this one:

1. rich cherry finish that complements other cherry furniture in the baby’s room.

2. heavy and sturdy

3. 4 height settings. Perfect for a shorty like me to easily set down a sleepy baby. most cribs only offer 3 settings that are either too far apart or does not make much of a difference.

4. mattress springs. i don’t like slats or MDF panel to support my bouncing baby boy. slats are a pain to adjust and MDP could slip and slide around.

5. toddler rail is included, which saves a hundred bucks.

6. converts to a head and footboard sleigh bed.

Cons:

Nothing for the crib. But I would not spend $$ on the furniture accessories from DaVinci. 0 bucks for baby size dressers? MDF and cheaply made? I would recommend going to a furniture store and purchase a real dresser for less or at least comparable that will outlast the crib stage. I have Broyhill dresser, chest, and nightstand for his room that matches the crib and I know will last after he’s done with the crib (off to college and converted back to a guest room).

Another recommendation:

corner changing table in cherry. I don’t recall the brand but the color match is great and can be used as a credenza once potty trained. fits nicely in a corner, does not take up much space. I don’t like the DaVinci changing table as it looks silly to use it as anything else with that immovable side rail.

Crib bumper: PBkids- super thick and ‘cushiony’ or RHbabyandchild- cover removes for easy washing.

First the good. The crib is beautiful and it’s very sturdy. The wood is great and I do love it. It is a little difficult for me because I’m short and the front doesn’t go down, but I also like it for the same reason. There are no moveable parts to pinch little fingers. I like how the whole crib doesn’t move when my daughter jumps up and down.

But, the finish is terrible. It scratches extreamly easily and there are teeth marks all up and down the rails. I scratched it on accident with just my fingernail. We are going to have to refinish it when my daughter is older.

With twin boys coming I wanted something reasonably priced that looked nice and didn’t take up too much space like the Lifetime cribs we’ve seen at the baby stores. This crib is not only so beautiful in person but it was a breeze to put together. I did it with my stepdaughter while I was 7 months pregnant with twins. And we did two of them! The color matches the Leksvik “Antique” furniture I bought from Ikea perfectly! We have two guest rooms with furniture and full size solid wood beds so we didn’t want to spend alot on furniture that we wouldn’t need when they get bigger. I love that this crib converts so they can continue to share a room until they are out of the toddler stage (mainly for the ease of us parents who have to respond to the needs of two babies/toddlers at once). I can’t recommend it enough and NO ONE should be disappointed with this crib. It does sit lower than alot of other cribs, but my husband is 6′2 and he has no problem with it. It only takes 2 seconds to bend over and pick up a baby or put a pacifier back in their mouth. I highly recommend this beautiful practical crib!

It’s as nice as I’d hoped but…. the one thing that urks me is the bottom draw on the bottom has no catch. Meaning it doesn’t stay flush with the crib. It always falls back and its not noticed or i have to bend further to reach and pull it out. I need to buy an accessory to place in the back to keep it from disappearing on me. this isn’t the greatest of cribs as far as sturdiness and quality are concerned. however, the price is right. the changing table, hamper and shelves are kinda flimsy. the front rail itself is thin. if i had seen seen/felt it assembled beforehand, my guess is that i would have chosen one that was more sturdy. but this was almost half the price of the ones i actually saw assembled in stores. i was not expecting top notch craftsmanship.

I think this crib is a great value for the price. It looks great in my nursery. The detail looks good in person. I debated on whether or not to purchase this crib because I had not seen it in person. It was available online only and was not on display in any of the stores. The gamble paid off. It doesn’t look “plasticy” like some of the other lower priced white cribs. And it has a spring thingy that holds the mattress and not the plywood. It has three levels for the mattress. On the highest level, I found it easy to reach in and out and get the baby. As far as the color goes, its a true white.

I was looking for a white crib for my baby girl who is due in August. I decorated the nursery in shabby chic style and I really wanted a crib that fit perfectly. This crib is it!! The wood detail on the backboard completely makes the crib. It is very elegant and girly. The shipping was very quick and there wasn’t one dent or scratch anywhere. My husband put it together very quickly and it is very sturdy. The only complant that we have is there are no screw hole covers. Since we are going to take it apart someday, I just decided to dab some white paint over the screws to hide them a little. The price is very affordable especially since the crib looks like it costs a lot more. I would highly recommend it for a little girl.

When my husband and I started looking for crib mattresses while I was pregnant with our twins we had NO idea what to look for. Thankfully, like always I started doing searches on Amazon to read reviews and that is where I learned about not having a mattress that was too soft. After much searching & reading we picked out 3 we liked best, one cheaper than this, one considerably more expensive & this one.

The cheaper mattress was TOO soft & did not have many springs. My husband thought it seemed like a fine mattress to buy UNTIL I was easily able to take my hand and squeeze the sides of the mattress together, top touching bottom. Then I explained to him that once a baby is old enough to stand their weight would crush the mattress just like I did and that is unsafe. Plus babies are supposed to sleep on a firm surface, not soft. After my demonstration my husband understood.

Next we did the same test with this mattress. You could not easily squeeze the sides of the mattress together, even my husband tried. It had a lot more springs than the cheaper one, it was firm but also comfortable. We also liked that it is basically water proof. And the plastic does not make any noise, nor is it loose at all.

We stopped our search there and purchased 2 of these. My girls are almost 1 year and their beds show no signs of wear, no indentations, nothing wrong at all. My girls even hold onto the sides of their crib and jump and the mattress does not sink at all even when they jump at the very edge. My girls sleep all night in these so they must be comfortable.

I don’t think you need to spend an arm and a leg in order to get a safe & comfortable mattress. Don’t get one so cheap that it is flimsy, doesn’t have many springs, that you can easily squeeze the sides together or that the plastic covering is loose. This one is perfect.

It also fits perfectly snug in my girls cribs and every sheet we’ve used fits perfectly.

Picking a mattress is a difficult decision, it is hard to know if one will be the right one,

when you look for a mattress for your self you can just lay on them and if they feel right you know, with a crib mattress your baby wont tell you if it feels right, for one they dont know and they cant tell you with words..

Most importantly when looking for a crib mattress you want something that is safe (not too soft, or too small) and will hold up until they move on to a big kid bed.

We picked/ and like this mattress for a couple reasons:

It fits our Crib (Davinci “Parker” 4-1)like a glove, no space between.. so its safe. It has a waterproof nonallergic top layers so you don’t have to worry about “fluids” absorbing and it doesnt make a plastic noise when you push down on it, it was firm enough but still a little soft to comfort baby, also has a 15 year warranty.

I have yet to see a bad review for this mattress, and I personally recommend this mattress to my friends.
